Crafting - Running a side hustle

Crafting - Running a side hustle

Have you wanted something so bad that you felt nothing else could stand in your way? You just had to, have it? If so, …My friend I assure you that you are not alone.

When we decided to launch our website and market our craft, I had no idea of the amount of work and time it would take to be able to juggle a full-time work and a hobby-turned business. No sorry that would be a lie. I DID know that it would take hard work and sacrifice, but I guess I was so caught up in the excitement and adrenaline of the idea of selling what I make that nothing else mattered.

The morning rush to work, clocking the hours and just giving yourself enough time to change hats into a Mum, prepping dinner, tidying up and then a change of role again to an entrepreneur where you are the maker, the designer, the IT guy, the photographer and the administrator. As much as us women are known for our multitasking skills, it can take a toll on our wellbeing, our family and our health. Another resolution for this year!!

Since this had been a life-long dream (and since I am not getting any younger lol!). I was prepared to put in the time, effort and finances to make it a reality. Let me tell you, it hasn't been easy. There have been days I just felt like giving up. I felt like I was drowning in expectations that I am afraid I couldn't deliver. But there were days I would look at my crafts and just go "Wow did I make that!" and that would be the motivation I needed to carry on.

I would LOVE to be able to do what I love as my fulltime work. Oh, what a day would that be. Being my own boss, decide my own routine, work in my P.Js. (Especially during winter). That's the thought that helps me re-focus and my faith and crochet carries me through.

The beginning is always tough. Its important that the proper foundation is laid. That the best seeds are sown and nurtured to be able to bear the fruit that we desire. Sometimes we just need a little bit of motivation and encouragement to push us again in the right direction That is why I love creating motivational quotes on items that we would access a lot in our comfort spot such as mugs and cushions to remind us to never give up.

I guess when you are doing what you love, it doesn't feel like work. Its just a joy to see what you create, the fruits of your hands magically turning into a beautiful product that also brings joy to the receiver.

This is not to say I haven't had insecurities and questioned the quality of my craft. Was it good enough? Would they like it? Is the yarn the right one for that piece? Is the price right? Are my product photos worthy to be out there?

But that does not stop me from shouldering on and perfecting my craft. When you put things into perspective, nothing else matters but just doing what you love. Sometimes we have to remind our inner self that there is no turning back. You fall, you get up and you just keep on going and perfecting your craft as you go. Life is too short to be held back by fears of 'what ifs'. Go for your dreams. You can do it. I believe in you!!

It may take time, work and money but as long as you don't lose focus on your dreams, It shall come to past...

Comment below on your dreams and your biggest fears. What is your favorite motivational quote? I would love to hear and lets help each other be the person we are meant to be!!

Till next time,

Love and blessing
